５．薬師寺の歴史──“凍れる音楽”の祈りを掌に映します

茶盌の表面を覆う藁白釉は、梅花皮の見事な模様を形成しています。この釉薬は焼成過程で自然に生まれるもので、その美しい雪景色のような模様は、見る者に静かな感動を与えます。藁白釉の独特の表情が茶盌全体に広がり、視覚的な楽しみとともに触感的な楽しみも提供します。

本作は、奈良・赤膚焼の八代 尾西楽斎様 が手掛けられた獅子形（唐獅子）香合でございます。高さ約８センチの掌中尺寸ながら、筋骨逞（たくま）しい体躯と愛嬌漂う面相を併せ持ち、右前肢に抱えた金泥彩の宝珠がいっそう瑞々しい気を放っております。胴中央で上下二分割され、内部に練香や伽羅片を納められる実用構造です。
